What is this weird word?
PROMISE. The New Testament was originally written in the Greek language. Many centuries ago, the Greeks had a word for a message which contained a promise. This is how God’s word is described in the New Testament many times. The Greek word, Epaggelia, is often translated “promise”, as in commandments with a promise, or simply a message that contains a promise. Some places where it occurs is Romans 9:9, 2nd Corinthians 1:20, Ephesians 2:12, & 6:2, Hebrews 8:6, 2nd Peter 3:4 & 1st John 2:25. There are many other occurrences of this word, and it’s significance lay in the Old Testament, where God often made promises and always fulfilled them. There are very few things in this world from God, which are more powerful than a promise, especially in view of how well He has kept them all.
